Christmas Decorating Ideas

Ok, it’s hot out, school just started for many of your kiddos and I am sitting over here typing about Christmas?

Really?

I know, I know.

It was somewhat hard for me to pull myself together to blog about DIY Christmas decorating in August but once I got going on this project, it was totally exciting and put me into the Christmas spirit! It was a nice break from the heat.

PLUS, if you remember me typing this post earlier in the week Hometalk & Lamps Plus 2013 Holiday Design Challenge, then now this post should all be making perfect sense.

Ya?

Lampsplus glass lamp

I was sent this lamp from Hometalk and Lamps Plus and asked to design a Holiday inspired theme with it.

What was a girl to do?

Have fun of course!

I mean, how often does someone ask you if you want to participate in a challenge to win a free lamp and then use your craftiness on it to create something totally fun for the Holidays? HELLO! I was not passing this one up!

Although, I am going to admit I was nervous and still am because three of the 30 contestants will receive $500 gift certificates to Lamps Plus to go on a shopping spree. I know the other contestants have some mad decorating skills, so I am just thankful we were even considered for this challenge altogether.

For this challenge I knew right away that I would paint the lamp parts black and recover the shade in burlap.

For Christmas last year, I decorated in a silver and white cottage Christmas theme, so I decided to use some of the decor I already had on hand to fill the lamp.

Elements such as silver bells, homemade Christmas ornaments, white snowflakes, glitter pinetree branches, white and silver glitz acorns, and a little mistletoe.

There really is something magical about Christmas and the spirit of that time of year. It was exciting to bring that into our home during this challenge. I am really looking forward to Christmas this year now!

Does this inspire you to decorate for Christmas this year?

I want to give a HUGE thank you to Hometalk and Lamps Plus for this design challenge opportunity. The lamp is beautiful and we are really excited to showcase it in our home.

It honestly wouldn’t be too bad to win the challenge and be featured in Lamps Plus’s Holiday catalog! Just sayin…

I hope you felt a little Christmas spirit from this post and possibly got some ideas on decorating for the Holidays this year.

Have a great Holiday weekend!

I LOVE the lamp. I always really enjoy using neutral colors to decorate for Christmas – like the white, silver, and tan burlap you used. I don’t feel like I’m trying to recreate my entire house, because they never clash with what we already have. Thanks for the inspiration and good luck with the challenge!

Love this. I might have to get one of those lamps and put my stamp on it!!! Great job. I do several trees. One is traditional colors and one is all silver, white ornaments. This would look great near that tree.

Jennifer, I love the way you use soft white and silver to decorate the lamp. Oh I hope you win the contest by the way. Do you have a picture with the lamp turned on? Wonder how it looks on Christmas night!
